Sylvan Child Care Handbook

WHAT IS EXPANDED LEARNING?

Expanded learning means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the SUSD afterschool program is to provide an inclusive and diverse environment that communicates and builds relationships with students and families and is focused on promoting growth in children’s academic, social and emotional health.

Registration Information

Minimum Requirements -
The child care requires a minimum attendance of three days per week, holidays excluded.

Intersession is on a sign up only basis. You will receive notification of all upcoming breaks and will have the option to register for this. Families are required to attend 5 days per week for break care.

Absences
When there is an absence of five or more consecutive days, without notification to the child care, an attempt will be made to contact you by email or phone. If there is no response, you will be dropped from the child care program.

Program Fee

Tuition -
The Expanded Learning Opportunity Program is currently offered at no cost to SUSD students

Contract Options -
Parents may contract to the days of the week care is needed ( three day minimum requirement)

Variable Schedule -

This option is available for families whose child care needs change on a weekly basis. The policy is as follows:

  • The family must attend for (3) days per week for a 5 day school week. (2) days for a 4 day school week, (1) day for a 3 day school week.
  • Schedules must be emailed or called in to the child care office every Monday
  • Failure to comply may result in your student being terminated from the program
  • Parents will be asked to sign the variable contract the first week of care.

The Child Care program does not provide drop in care.

Set Release Time

We have a set release time of 4:00PM starting January 13, 2025 to ensure students stay longer and fully benefit from the program. Implementing a designated minimum amount of time required in the program would help in maintaining consistency and maximizing the effectiveness of our afterschool program.

We understand that our students may have other commitments that require them to leave earlier than 4:00PM (i.e. tutoring, Scouts, sports games/practices, dance, etc.). These early release times will be accommodated by filling out the Early Release Form. The form can be found on the District Website or at the child care site.

Arrivals/Departures/Security

  • For your child’s safety, please call the child care site if your child is not attending on a scheduled day
  • Children must be signed in and out upon arrival and departure at each site. This procedure is necessary for record keeping and emergency situations
  • All individuals designated on the registration form to pick up your child (including the parent) will be required to show a form of photo identification if the staff is unfamiliar with them
  • Your child will not be allowed to leave with any person not listed on the form or without parent/guardian verification
